Introduction
So, this site started out as a class project. Towards the end of my bachelor's degree, I took a class entitled "How Writers Read" with Dr. Drew Kopp at Rowan University. As a lifelong reader, I thought maybe I will learn a few things.... but really, How much will I change? I knew his classes were always a lot of work and that I would be held to really high standards, I had him as a professor several times. I knew the expectations would be great! However, I also knew that I would learn something valuable. What I didn't anticipate was that I would drastically change the way I read things. I became a different kind of reader, I also decided the works I continued to read after the class was over deserved the same kind of attention to detail. To learn from the writing, I needed to dig deeper. To become a prolific, insightful writer, I needed to be a prolific, insightful reader. So after a hiatus to finish my degree, I come back to this blog. Writers Read with Pens.

The Rhetorical Stance I bring into reading is "I know it and I just want you to tell me I'm right." I generally read for themes, I notice literary devices, I look for motifs. I think I'm a critical reader of fiction, non-fiction I mainly look for the main idea. The process is to look beyond the narrative to a deeper appreciation of the work.
